US Cremonese has made an exciting signing by bringing former Premier League champion Jamie Vardy to the club on a free transfer. The 38-year-old is expected to fly over to Italy on Sunday night, although there are no concerns about Monday's transfer deadline given that he is a free agent.
Where will Vardy fit in for Cremonese?
Cremonese manager Davide Nicola prefers a 3-5-2 formation with two centre-forwards. Despite his age, Vardy brings blistering pace and a lethal goal-scoring ability to the team that Cremonese currently lack. The veteran forward is expected to be a regular player for his new side, although it may take some time before he makes his debut due to limited pre-season training.
Who will Vardy play with in 2025-26?
Cremonese's squad includes established players like Alessio Zerbin and Giuseppe Pezzella, along with young talents such as Filippo Terracciano. The team has also brought in Warren Bondo on loan from Milan and Federico Baschirotto, who scored against AC Milan. Antonio Sanabria and Federico Bonazzoli have already featured as starting strikers for the team.

Cremonese off to flying start
Cremonese could not have asked for a better start to their Serie A campaign. After winning promotion from Serie B via the play-offs last season, they stunned Serie A with a 2-1 victory over AC Milan in San Siro. This was followed by another encouraging 3-2 win against newly-promoted Sassuolo thanks to a 93rd-minute penalty. They did lose on penalties to Palermo in the opening round of the Coppa Italia, but this may come to benefit the team in the long run given that they will now only have Serie A matches to contend with until the end of the 2025-26 season.
